President Bola Tinubu has approved a new salary structure for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, granting pay increases of between 30 and 80 per cent.

The development was disclosed in a State House press release issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The new package, which takes effect from September 1, 2026, will benefit about 250,000 military personnel nationwide.

Under the revised structure, officers above the rank of Colonel will receive a 30 per cent salary increase, while personnel from Colonel to Warrant Officer will enjoy a 50 per cent raise. Soldiers from the rank of Private to Staff Sergeant will receive the highest increase of 80 per cent.

The salary review will increase the Armed Forces’ annual wage bill from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion, as the Federal Government seeks to improve troop welfare and strengthen the military’s capacity to tackle insecurity across the country.

President Tinubu said the pay increase reflects his administration’s appreciation of the sacrifices made by military personnel and reaffirmed its commitment to improving their welfare and equipping the Armed Forces with modern tools to effectively protect the nation.
