An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Bala Wakili, has been killed during a gun battle between police operatives and suspected bandits in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The officer died while leading a security operation aimed at repelling the attackers.
The Sokoto State Police Command said the incident occurred after officers acted on intelligence about the movement of armed bandits. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, during which ASP Wakili sustained fatal injuries.
The Command described the slain officer as brave and dedicated, commending his sacrifice in the fight against banditry. It also reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations to rid the state of criminal elements.
Police authorities assured residents that efforts are underway to track down the fleeing suspects and strengthen security across affected communities, urging the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
