Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu walks from his residence to his office, eats one meal a day and has not travelled outside the country in the past three months, according to the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji.
Adedeji made the remarks during an appearance on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television, while responding to questions about the cost of governance, the economy and Nigeria’s tax system.
According to him, Tinubu walks to his office within the Presidential Villa instead of using a vehicle, except when travelling to the airport.
“Mr President goes from home to office on foot, not even driving except when he is going to the airport. I don’t know where you see the convoy,” Adedeji said.
Responding to questions about the president’s convoy, Adedeji said the ownership of official vehicles should not be viewed as unusual for a Nigerian leader.
Adedeji also described Tinubu as maintaining a disciplined routine centred on work, saying the president has remained in Nigeria over the past three months and spends much of his time attending to official documents.
“In the last three months, he has not even left the shores of this country, trekking and working. If you go there now, you will see him review one document or the other,” he said.
He further claimed that the president eats only one meal a day and rarely attends social gatherings.
“The president eats once in a day. How many parties have you seen him at in the last three years? Tell me where you have seen him, whether on holiday or anywhere?” Adedeji said.
Adedeji’s comments came as he defended the Tinubu administration’s approach to governance during the television interview, where he also answered questions on Nigeria’s economic reforms and taxation policies.
