Low voter turnout has characterized the early hours of Saturday’s bye-elections into two Kano State House of Assembly seats.

The elections, which are being conducted across 1,014 polling units in 24 registration areas, follow the deaths of Aminu Sa’ad Ungogo of Ungogo constituency and Sarki Aliyu of Kano Municipal constituency December 2025.

With approximately 535,000 registered voters expected to participate, election materials reportedly arrived early at polling stations.

However, officials and residents expressed concern over the poor turnout, though many remain hopeful that participation will improve as the day progresses.

Reports from across the constituencies indicate that the exercise has so far been conducted peacefully, with no major incidents recorded.

Security agencies have maintained a visible presence to ensure order, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated its commitment to delivering credible polls.
