Grammys 2026: Nigeria Goes Home Empty-Handed as Davido Loses to Tyla Again

Afrobeat Star, Davido.

Nigeria failed to secure a single award at the 2026 Grammy Awards despite a strong showing across major categories.

Top Nigerian artistes including Burna Boy, Davido, Omah Lay, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid were all nominated but ultimately missed out on the prestigious trophies.

South African star Tyla emerged victorious in the Best African Music Performance category with her hit single Push 2 Start, edging out Burna Boy’s Love, Davido and Omah Lay’s With You, and Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat.

In the Best Global Music Album category, Brazilian music icons Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia clinched the award for Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo, defeating Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness.

Tyla’s latest win marks her second victory in the category since its introduction in 2024, when she made history with Water as the inaugural recipient. Her back-to-back triumph further cements her growing influence and dominance on the global African music stage.
