The Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN) has rejected allegations linking Fulani communities to the recent deadly attack on Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The association described the reports as baseless, insisting that there is no evidence to support claims that Fulani herders were responsible for the killings.
Speaking on behalf of the association, GAFDAN’s Bokkos Chairman, Saleh Adamu, said the group has consistently encouraged its members to live peacefully with other communities. He condemned the attack, which claimed more than 20 lives, including eight members of a single family, and stressed that the Fulani community should not be blamed without credible proof.
The association called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to identify those responsible for the violence. It warned that spreading unverified accusations against any ethnic group could inflame tensions and undermine ongoing efforts to restore peace in Plateau State.
GAFDAN reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful coexistence and urged residents of Bokkos and surrounding communities to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
The group maintained that justice and dialogue remain the best path to lasting peace in the area.
