Presidential candidate Peter Obi has welcomed the Federal Government’s suspension of the proposed 2027 WAEC and NECO registration fee increase, describing the decision as a victory for Nigerians.
He said the fee hike should never have been proposed, despite commending the government for listening to public concerns.
Obi warned that the increase would have placed an extra burden on millions of families already facing economic hardship.
He stressed that education is a fundamental right, not a tool for generating government revenue, and cautioned that higher fees could force many students out of school.
Obi also praised parents, civil society groups, and other Nigerians whose opposition to the proposed fee hike helped secure the policy’s suspension.
