A US federal judge, Beryl Howell, has given US Attorney Jeanine Pirro four additional days to comply with a court order concerning the release of government records linked to past investigations involving President Bola Tinubu.
The new deadline is August 21, 2026, after the court rejected Pirro’s request for a 10-day extension.
The latest development was disclosed by Dr. Von Batten-Montague-York, whose firm has been campaigning for the release of the documents. He welcomed the court’s decision and argued that US strategic interests with Nigeria should not prevent the records from being made public.
The records are reportedly held by the US Department of Justice, FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration. The case, which involves requests for the release of records under the Freedom of Information Act, has been before the court for more than three years.
The documents relate to historical allegations and investigations concerning Tinubu, which he has previously denied.
However, the court’s directive to process or release records does not amount to a finding that Tinubu committed drug-trafficking offences; the contents of any non-exempt documents released will determine what further information becomes public.
