The Kebbi State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that the group known as “Sai Malam” is a terrorist organisation, saying there is no evidence linking its members to terrorism.
The command clarified that suspects arrested in February 2026 were investigated and charged for alleged criminal offences, including possession of suspected counterfeit currency and ritual-related items, not terrorism.
Police also said no firearms were recovered during the operation.
The clarification follows widespread reports alleging that the group had resurfaced as a terrorist organisation in parts of Kebbi State.
Police said fresh investigations are ongoing to verify the latest claims and identify anyone involved in criminal activities.
The police urged residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and continue providing useful intelligence, reaffirming their commitment to protecting lives and maintaining security across Kebbi State.
