France has confirmed its first Ebola case after a doctor who recently returned from a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive for the deadly virus.
The French Health Ministry announced that the patient has been placed in isolation while receiving specialized medical care.
Authorities moved swiftly to begin contact tracing and epidemiological investigations to identify anyone who may have come into contact with the infected individual. Officials stressed that strict containment measures were implemented immediately upon the patient’s arrival in France to minimize any risk of transmission.
The case is linked to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Congo, which has infected more than 1,000 people and claimed over 260 lives.
Health experts say the outbreak, caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain of the virus, is one of the fastest-growing Ebola outbreaks recorded in its early stages.
Despite growing concerns, French authorities and international health agencies have reassured the public that the risk to the wider European population remains low.
Surveillance efforts have been intensified across France as health officials continue monitoring contacts and strengthening preventive measures to prevent further spread of the disease.
