Troops under Operation Enduring Peace have killed two armed men during an ambush in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, central Nigeria. The military said the action followed credible intelligence on criminal movements.
According to a statement by military spokesperson Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the operation took place on Tuesday evening near Doruwa Babuje in the Marit area. Troops reportedly engaged suspected gunmen linked to recent attacks on nearby communities.
After the encounter, soldiers recovered a locally made rifle, ammunition, a cutlass, a knife, and a mobile phone. The military said the items were believed to belong to the suspects involved in violent incidents in the region.
Security forces have since intensified patrols in Marit and nearby Lajam to prevent further attacks and track fleeing suspects. Authorities say the goal is to stabilise the area and protect civilians from armed groups.
The army reiterated its commitment to restoring peace, urging residents to share timely information on suspicious activity. The operation is part of broader efforts to curb armed violence and insecurity in Plateau State.
