Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, says empowering women is essential to national development and economic growth. She spoke at a graduation and exhibition event in Abuja.
The programme, “Seed for Change: Creative Women Residency,” trained 50 women from diverse backgrounds, including students and internally displaced persons. Organizers say it aimed to build skills in creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
The Minister praised the collaboration behind the initiative, saying partnerships between government and civil society are key to unlocking women’s potential. She urged graduates to use their new skills to create opportunities in their communities.
She also said the government is working to empower millions of women across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas. The goal, she added, is to reduce vulnerability and promote financial independence for women and families.
Programme founder Taibat Ajiboye said the initiative brought together participants from universities, communities, and displacement camps. She described them as the programme’s core target group for long-term impact.
