UK hits porn firm with $1.8m Fine

Britain’s media regulator, Ofcom, has fined pornographic content provider 8579 LLC £1.35 million (approximately $1.82 million) for failing to implement effective age verification measures to prevent children from accessing adult material.

In a statement issued on Monday, Ofcom said the penalty was imposed under the United Kingdom’s new online safety regime, which mandates that platforms hosting explicit content must take robust steps to protect minors.

The regulator also imposed an additional £50,000 fine after the company failed to comply with a formal information request during the course of the investigation.

Ofcom described the action as part of its broader enforcement drive under the country’s strengthened online safety laws, aimed at ensuring greater accountability among digital platforms.
