Lawmakers in the Taraba State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the Speaker, John Kizito, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The mass defection follows weeks of internal disputes within the PDP at the national level and what the lawmakers described as the need to “align with the centre” to secure greater federal attention for Taraba State.
Their move comes ahead of Governor Agbu Kefas’s planned defection to the APC on Wednesday, 19 November 2025. With the development, all 24 members of the state assembly now belong to the APC.
Governor Kefas, who announced his intention last Saturday, said his decision to leave the PDP was driven by the interests of Taraba residents rather than personal political benefit.
He spoke during an inspection of renovation work at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, the venue designated for his formal declaration rally.
“On November 19, I will officially transition from PDP to APC. This movement is about the destiny of the people of Taraba, and we are expecting many visitors for the ceremony,” he said.
