Nigeria’s former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the abduction of 25 female students in Kebbi State and urged the Federal Government to immediately overhaul the nation’s security architecture.
In a statement posted on his social media accounts, Atiku said he was devastated by the attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, where bandits killed the Vice-Principal and kidnapped the schoolgirls.
He described the incident as another stark reminder of what he called the “worsening insecurity in our nation,” warning that Nigeria “cannot continue on this path.”
The opposition leader also condemned the killing of an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Umar Moriki, in Zamfara State, as well as the reported abductions in Tsafe Local Government Area, where he said entire families, including women and children, were seized by bandits. He said such “acts of barbarity have no place in a civilized society.”
Atiku called on the government to act decisively to protect citizens and restore security across affected communities.
