The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a move that signals a significant shift in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving opposition landscape.

The defection is widely viewed as part of a broader strategy to mount a formidable challenge against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Key political heavyweights linked to the emerging coalition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Kwankwaso who secured over 1.4 million votes in the 2023 presidential election’s, Political analysts say his entry will deliver a major boost to the coalition, particularly in northern Nigeria, where he commands a strong grassroots base through the Kwankwasiyya movement.

They believe his influence with that of other opposition figures could significantly reshape Nigeria’s electoral system.
