The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said fuel subsidy would not return if he wins the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during the inauguration of his campaign office in Abuja on Monday, Makinde proposed a more transparent approach to providing benefits to Nigerians.
The governor said rather than bringing back fuel subsidies, his administration would focus on policies aimed at reducing the economic burden on Nigerians and creating a more sustainable system for managing the country’s energy sector.
Makinde’s position comes amid continued debate over the impact of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians, particularly the rise in transportation costs and the general cost of living. The issue is expected to remain a major subject in the build-up to the 2027 presidential election.
The APM presidential candidate’s proposal forms part of his broader economic vision for Nigeria, as political parties and presidential hopefuls begin presenting their plans to voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
