Professor Usman Yusuf has criticised the newly constituted All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council for the 2027 election, saying Nigerians are waiting to hear how its members will convince them to support President Bola Tinubu for another term.
Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV, Yusuf described the campaign council as a mixture of “the good, the bad and the ugly” while questioning the credibility of some of its members.
He said Tinubu was unlikely to embark on the kind of nationwide campaign previously associated with former President Muhammadu Buhari, claiming the responsibility would instead fall on politicians, clerics and other members of the council.
Yusuf also questioned the appointment of former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General of the campaign council, particularly what he would tell people in the North about the Tinubu administration’s performance.
He said northern voters, who contributed significantly to Tinubu’s 2023 victory, would demand to know what they had gained from the government amid economic hardship, poverty and insecurity.
The professor urged the APC not to underestimate voters, citing the recent political development in Osun State as a lesson for the party ahead of 2027.
He argued that a large campaign council, political positions and government statistics would not automatically translate into votes, insisting that Nigerians were patiently waiting for the APC to explain why they should support Tinubu again.
