Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has accused the United States of failing to fulfil its commitments, saying Iran does not welcome war but will respond to attacks against the country.
Iran said it carried out attacks on US bases in Jordan and military targets at Al Minhad Airbase in the United Arab Emirates, following US strikes on two rocket launchers on Iran’s Larak Island.
The renewed fighting has heightened concerns over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route.
The European Union said it would continue working with the US and G7 to maintain pressure on Iran while protecting freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway.
The EU also called on Iran to curb its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes and stop activities it considers destabilising. The latest exchanges of attacks have raised fears that the conflict could expand further across the Middle East.
