The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has warned security agencies against waiting until the last minute before deploying personnel for election security.
He said early planning, intelligence gathering and proper coordination are essential to ensuring peaceful and credible elections in Nigeria.
Musa made the remarks on Tuesday at the 8th edition of the Blueprint Newspapers Public Lecture, Impact Series and Awards Ceremony in Abuja, where stakeholders discussed the security challenges and integrity of the 2027 general elections.
The Defence Minister stressed the need for security agencies to begin preparations well ahead of elections rather than reacting to threats when voting is about to commence. He noted that timely intelligence and coordinated security planning would help agencies identify potential risks and respond effectively.
Musa’s warning comes as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, with security remaining a major concern. He called for stronger cooperation among relevant agencies and a proactive approach to election security to protect voters, electoral officials and the integrity of the democratic process.
