Taraba Governor Kefas to dump PDP for APC

Fresh signs suggest Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, is close to defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following weeks of strategic consultations and discreet political meetings in Abuja.

Sources told Daily Trust that Governor Kefas recently held a private meeting with APC youth leaders from Taraba State in the Federal Capital Territory, where he reportedly reaffirmed his intention to join the ruling party once final arrangements are completed.

The meeting, which took place on Wednesday at the T.Y. Danjuma House in Asokoro, Abuja, was led by APC youth leader Comrade Abubakar Gembu and attended by party representatives from all 16 local government areas in Taraba.

Ahead of the Abuja discussions, Governor Kefas had reportedly sent trusted allies across the state to gauge grassroots sentiment about the planned move. The consultation team was led by former senator Dahiru Bako.

Insiders said most stakeholders consulted — including some within the PDP — expressed support for the governor’s political realignment, signalling a potentially smooth transition if the defection is formalised.

Neither Governor Kefas nor his spokesperson has made an official announcement, but political watchers say the widening cracks within the PDP and the governor’s increased engagement with APC figures indicate that a switch may be imminent.
