Nigeria’s NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, says he has no objection to the verification of his academic credentials following reports that an individual or organisation requested certified copies of his educational records.
In a post on X, Obi said the request included his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), obtained in 1984, as well as admission records and other related documents.
Obi said he would not challenge the university’s decision to release his academic records, provided the process complies with Nigerian law. He added that institutions he attended in Nigeria and abroad were also free to release his records in line with applicable laws and regulations.
The presidential candidate said transparency and accountability were particularly important for people seeking public office. He welcomed scrutiny of his background, qualifications and record as he seeks the support of Nigerians.
