Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has warned against attempts to obstruct investigations into the deaths of miners in Niger State, pledging that anyone found interfering with the process will face legal consequences.
The minister issued the warning to the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), stressing the need for transparency and accountability in the investigation.
Tunji-Ojo said destroying or concealing evidence, intimidating witnesses or interfering with investigators would be treated as serious offences against the nation.
“Any attempt to destroy or conceal evidence, intimidate witnesses, or obstruct this investigation will be treated as a serious offence against the nation and will not be tolerated,” he warned.
He further pledged that the full weight of the law would be brought against anyone found responsible for undermining the investigation, regardless of their position.
The minister’s warning comes amid concerns surrounding the miners’ deaths, as authorities face calls to establish the circumstances of the incident and ensure accountability for any wrongdoing.
