Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, says he will not help politicians win elections in their respective states, insisting that his priority is supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Wike made the clarification in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka.
The minister said he does not consider himself a threat to any politician but believes he has a responsibility to support Tinubu and work towards his victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike also dismissed claims by some APC governors that he was attempting to install candidates in their states. He said some governors had instead approached him for advice on preventing the opposition PDP from fielding candidates in their states.
He argued that if Tinubu loses in 2027, opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi could turn their attention to him because of his prominent support for the president. Wike said he would therefore not sit back and watch Tinubu lose the election.
