German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has sharply criticised the United States’ approach to its ongoing conflict with Iran, warning that Washington appears to be struggling without a clear path forward.
He suggested that the situation has exposed weaknesses in US strategy, adding that the country risks being embarrassed on the global stage.
Speaking during an engagement with students in Marsberg, located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Merz questioned the direction of US policy.
He said he could not identify any concrete exit strategy being pursued by United States in the conflict, raising concerns about how the situation might evolve.
Merz further noted that Iranian leaders appear to be handling negotiations with considerable skill, describing their diplomatic approach as calculated and effective.
According to him, Iran has demonstrated a level of strength and resilience that may have been underestimated by Western powers.
His remarks highlight growing international concern over the trajectory of the conflict, as well as uncertainty about how and when it might end.
With tensions still high, observers warn that the absence of a clear strategy could prolong the crisis and deepen its global implications.
