Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has sharply criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over worsening insecurity, following fresh attacks and kidnappings in parts of the country.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Atiku condemned the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, as well as deadly attacks in Katsina State, describing the incidents as evidence of what he called a “collapse of leadership.”
The opposition leader argued that repeated official condemnations after violent attacks were no longer enough, accusing the government of reacting with “press releases” instead of decisive security action.
Nigeria has faced a renewed wave of kidnappings, armed attacks and mass killings in recent years, particularly in northern and central regions, despite government assurances that security operations are improving.
The latest criticism adds to growing political pressure on Tinubu’s administration as concerns mount over public safety, economic hardship and the government’s ability to contain armed criminal groups across Africa’s most populous nation.
