The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, is reportedly preparing to reshuffle the State Executive Council, with some commissioners expected to lose their positions, a source familiar with developments at the Government House told Explorer English.
The source said the governor has already begun taking steps that indicate changes to the composition of the cabinet are imminent.
According to the source, Governor Yusuf has directed government ministries to stop submitting official files for approval. Commissioners who have files pending at the Governor’s Office have also been instructed to retrieve them.
The source lamented that the situation has slowed activities in some government ministries, affecting the smooth conduct of official business.
The source said the move is linked to the governor’s concerns that some commissioners do not support his reported ambition to seek a second term in the 2027 elections and may be acting contrary to his political interests.
The source further revealed that following the resignation of Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso as Commissioner for Youth and Sports, the governor considered appointing Sani Musa Danja as his replacement. However, the plan was later suspended after questions were raised about Sani Danja’s continued association with the Kwankwasiyya political movement.
Political analysts say the reported developments may reflect concerns within the administration over the loyalty of some government officials, particularly regarding support for the governor’s reported plans to seek a second term in 2027.
