The Nigerian Air Force has taken another step towards acquiring 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters from the United States following a beam-signing ceremony at Bell Textron’s facility in Amarillo, Texas.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, led a Nigerian delegation to the ceremony, marking a milestone in the defence cooperation programme between Nigeria and the United States.
Air Force spokesperson Ehimen Ejodame said the acquisition forms part of Nigeria’s efforts to modernise its military and strengthen national security.
Aneke said the helicopters would enhance the military’s operational capabilities, particularly in providing air support to ground forces during security operations.
The delegation also inspected the helicopter production line at Bell Textron. The Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening defence partnerships and acquiring modern equipment to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
