Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) received 120 complaints in Kano State in August, resolving 75 cases while 45 remain pending.
The commission’s Kano coordinator, Shehu Abdullahi, disclosed the figures on Monday, saying 80 complaints involved child abandonment and violations of children’s rights.
He said 29 cases concerned domestic violence and the right to life, while 11 involved economic and cultural rights, law enforcement abuses and parental neglect.
Abdullahi said the commission also mediated marital disputes and urged couples to exercise greater tolerance and fulfil their family responsibilities.
He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to working with security agencies and other relevant institutions to strengthen human rights protection across the state.
