A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced a Boko Haram member, Alkali Yarima, also known as La’ari, to death by hanging for his involvement in the 2015 terrorist attack on Maiduguri, Borno State.
The court found him guilty of terrorism-related offences and also imposed a life sentence for receiving terrorist training. In addition, he was handed prison terms ranging from 10 to 35 years on several other counts.
The Federal Government had charged Yarima with being a member of the banned Boko Haram group between 2009 and 2015 and participating in the deadly Maiduguri attack under the Terrorism (Prevention Amendment) Act, 2013.
The judgment marks another significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to combat terrorism, with authorities reaffirming their commitment to ensuring that those involved in terrorist activities face justice.
