Border communities in northeast Nigeria suffer deadly attack blamed on suspected Boko Haram militants.

At least 20 people have been killed in attacks by suspected Boko Haram militants in northeast Nigeria. The violence targeted communities in Borno and neighboring Adamawa states.

Local officials said the attack occurred Tuesday afternoon in Pubagu, Askira Uba area of Borno, and Mayo-Ladde in Hong area of Adamawa. The two communities lie along a shared border.

Authorities said gunmen overpowered local security operatives before opening fire on residents. Eleven people were killed in Pubagu, while nine others died in Mayo-Ladde.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers arrived on motorcycles, shooting for hours, burning homes, and looting property. Residents said there was little resistance from security forces during the raid.

The incident follows another recent attack in the same region, where militants killed four soldiers and a civilian. The attack of such magnitude underscores ongoing security challenges in northeast Nigeria.
