A mass burial for victims of a deadly Palm Sunday attack in central Nigeria was disrupted when women and youths blocked a church in Plateau State, demanding the release of three detained community members.

At least 33 people were killed in the attack, with some victims dying later in hospital.

Residents accused authorities of arresting the wrong individuals and failing to apprehend the real perpetrators.

Protesters halted the ceremony, chanting and insisting, “We will not allow the burial to take place until our sons are released.”

Tensions eased after security forces released the three youths, sparking relief among mourners gathered at the church.

“Their release brought calm,” a community member said, as the burial finally proceeded after the brief standoff.
