Opposition leaders in Nigeria staged a protest in the capital, Abuja, on Wednesday, accusing the country’s electoral body of actions they say threaten democracy and the rights of opposition parties.
The demonstration, tagged #OccupyINEC, brought together prominent political figures, including former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside other senior politicians.
Protesters also showed support for Senator David Mark, backing his leadership within the ADC party amid an ongoing internal dispute.
Speaking at the rally, Peter Obi urged citizens to defend democratic values, warning, “Nigeria must not drift into a one-party state.”
The protest follows a controversial decision by the electoral commission to withdraw recognition of rival factions within the ADC, a move opposition groups describe as interference in party affairs.
