The United States Embassy in Nigeria has cancelled all visa appointments scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2026, citing credible threats of protests in Abuja linked to rising tensions between the United States and Iran.
In a statement released Wednesday, the embassy warned of potential demonstrations in the Federal Capital Territory and urged American citizens to stay indoors.
“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs U.S. citizens that there is a high potential for protest due to the current conflict with Iran, the notice said, referencing previous demonstrations that escalated into clashes with Nigerian security forces.
The alert follows U.S.-Israel airstrikes that reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with other top Iranian officials.
Tehran has since retaliated, launching missiles at U.S. bases in Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, and vowing further action.
